Pieris japonica 'Mountain Fire'COMMON: Japanese Pieris LEAVES: Alternate, simple, evergreen, oblong, 1 1/2 to 3 1/2" long, width = 1/2, green leaves, new growth is reddish color SIZE: 4 to 8' tall, width 1/2 to similar HARDINESS: Zone 5 to 8 HABIT: Upright, neat, stiff branches GROWTH RATE: Slow, 4 to 6" per year FLOWERS: March/April, white or pinkish, 4 to 6" long pendulous, last for several weeks FRUIT: Not significant SOILS: Moist, acid, well drained, soils, amended with peat moss or organic matter LIGHTING: Full sun to part shade USES: Border or mass planting. Good to add with Azaleas and Rhododendrons. MAINTENANCE: Reasonably trouble free
